What did you talk about in your last company update?
Chances are it didn’t end with the learning about the Hug Deli (thanks Fred!).
We know we do things differently at Neu21 and sometimes we have to remind ourselves that we are fortunate to be able to take a company update meeting to a place that the Hug Deli is the topic of conversation.
Each month we have an ‘all hands’ meeting – the intention is to come together on Zoom and talk about the things that are considered important company wide. Typically, it starts with an update of where we’re at as a business – like financials and generally how we’re tracking as a business. We also usually have some kind of people update, this time Arnie told us about how he’s pursuing his side hustle more actively and that he’ll work a bit less with Neu21 so he can do both (awesome Arnie!). This month, these were the only two ‘official’ updates to share and this only took us about 20 minutes of a meeting scheduled for 90 minutes. We do always have an open forum – ask anything, share anything, talk about anything, and this time we did. We talked about issues impacting the world right now and how we’re feeling about them. Basically, it got heavy talking about the heavy feelings caused by everything happening in the world; Australia is currently speaking openly about domestic violence issues and the women in the team shared their thoughts and feelings which was met with respect & care. There was more we talked about but this piece isn’t written to talk about the issues themselves, it’s to highlight that we have an environment and a team where the monthly company update isn’t just about the numbers or the business. All of us have worked in other organisations where the preparation for a company update would be numerous people working on a presentation in advance (making sure it looked perfect), timing the content to make sure everything was covered, making sure to allow time for maybe a ‘planted’ question or two and ending with something like ‘keep up the great work’.
This month, our meeting ended with Fredrik reminding us of the power of getting into nature and the power of hugs… that’s where the Hug Deli came up! Did you know that hugs lasting six seconds or more are best for soothing our minds and calming our bodies?! (thanks Mari!).
