Unlimited annual leave - it actually works!

It might sound like the ultimate perk of the job “unlimited annual leave” and maybe it is. It certainly grabs the attention of people we talk to who work in jobs that have pretty standard annual leave entitlements.

For us, it just makes sense… and no, no one takes advantage of it!

We are a radically diverse team, we have people living thousands of miles away from their families, some who take on the lions share of parenting their kids and others who are adventurers wanting to get out there into the big wide world whenever they get the chance. Whatever reason people want to take annual leave – it doesn’t matter to us, just take it … as much as you like.

So how does it work in reality?

How is it that no one takes advantage of it?

Simple, we truly live our one value of love. We have a team who use love as their guide when making decisions.

That includes when to take leave & for how long.

This year we’ve had Kate spend a few weeks adventuring in Vietnam with her family, Martine stayed home in Australia for 3 weeks when family came to visit from the UK, Hannah is celebrating her partner’s milestone birthday by travelling Europe for two months, it’s been a while since Juanita has hugged her family in Colombia so she’ll be there for a month getting all the hugs she can put in the hug bank and right now Gus is visiting his family in Argentina even when not long ago he was soaking up the awesome culture in Japan with his wife & kids.

There’s more leave happening this year than we even bother counting, and we don’t need to count the days because we can see the benefit – our people are happy because they get to do the things that fill their cup without having to track the leave balance.

They give their best to us when they’re working because they get to take this leave.

Of course there’s logistics involved – it’s simple though, do what’s right for our customers and communicate with the people who your leave will impact. If that means adjusting dates here & there, then we do it – it just works!

Looking back on all the years we’ve had unlimited annual leave in place, we wouldn’t change a thing.
